Long Description
From Al Franken -- author of the New York Times bestseller Why Not Me? and the #1 blockbuster phenomenon Rush Limbaugh Is a Big Fat Idiot -- the ultimate graduation gift for the Class of 2002...and beyond. Inspired, inspiring, and laugh-out-loud funny, here is a beacon to guide graduates across the uncertain seas of post-academic life. More advanced than Robert Fulghum, more fit than Maria Shriver's husband, longer than Anna Quindlen's A Short Guide to a Happy Life, and with fewer illustrations than Dr. Seuss's Oh, the Places You'll Go!, Al Franken is at last ready to share the wisdom that only he can. With a gift that is perfectly sized and priced for gift-giving, Al Franken has created a new modern classic.Short Description
From Al Franken--author of the bestselling "Why Not Me?" and the #1 blockbuster "Rush Limbaugh Is a Big Fat Idiot"--comes the ultimate graduation gift for the Class of 2002 . . . and beyond. Al Franken is at last ready to share the wisdom that only he can.
A New York Times bestseller! Al Franken, or Dr. Al Franken as he prefers to be called, has written the first truly indispensable book of the new millennium. Filled with wisdom, observations, and practical tips you can put to work right away, Oh, the Things I Know! is a cradle-to-grave guide to living, an easy-to-follow user's manual for human existence. What does a megasuccess like Al Franken-bestselling author, Emmy-award winning television star, and honorary Ph.D.-have to say to ordinary people like you? Well, as Dr. Al himself says, "There's no point in getting advice from hopeless failures." Join Mr. Franken-sorry, Dr. Franken-on a journey that will take you from your first job ("Oh, Are You Going to Hate Your First Job!"), through the perils and pitfalls of your twenties and thirties ("Oh, the Person of Your Dreams vs. the Person You Can Actually Attract!"), into the joys of marriage and parenthood ("Oh, Just Looking at Your Spouse Will Make Your Skin Crawl!"), all the way to the golden years of senior citizenship ("Oh, the Nursing Home You'll Wind Up In!").Don't travel life's lonesome highway by yourself. Take Al Franken along, if not as an infallible guide, then at least as a friend who will make you laugh.
Al Franken was born in 1951 and grew up in Minnesota. He got his start in show business in high school, when he began performing stand-up comedy. He attended Harvard University, but his comic talent went unrecognized by the school's famous Harvard Lampoon, which rejected him. Undaunted, Franken continued to do stand-up with a friend from high school, Tom Davis. Franken and Davis became celebrities when Lorne Michaels discovered their act and hired them for his new show, Saturday Night Live. In addition to doing the stand-up, Franken wrote many funny skits, including Chevy Chase's famous Gerald Ford bits, and created memorable characters like Stuart Smalley. Franken's ability to write comedy translated into a best-selling success with his political satire, Rush Limbaugh is a Big Fat Idiot. The book has sold almost one million copies.
