Although slightly younger, the author lived through the same stirring times as his characters. He well remembers some of the activities, events, emotions and places mentioned in this story. He has also incorporated a few of his own personal experiences, in and out of uniform. In the Royal Air Force, he encountered the often-questionable wisdom of Rules, Regulations and Higher Ranks. These he frequently circumvented or frustrated, as does 'John Hardwicke', the principle character, and narrator, of'Not Quite A Judas'.Whilst researching for this book, the author visited Germany, and there met former members of the Hitler Youth, with widely varying ranks. Their experiences, and attitudes, are included. At the same time, he built up a collection of uniforms, badges, documents etc; and the accumulated knowledge of these has been worked into 'Not Quite A Judas', and into the three volumes of his'Youth Led By Youth', Vilmor Publications.
