Impressions of Indiana paints a scenic picture of the state of Indiana. Beginning with The Mighty Wabash, the first movement creates a majestic and dignified overview of the Wabash River as it travels 475 miles throughout the state. The second movement looks back almost 1000 years to a Native American town in Mists on the Mounds, a lyrical and delicate piece. The final movement, Speedway Sensation, is a fast piece that pays tribute to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and the Indianapolis 500. The relentless pace of the race is represented by broken octaves in a walking bass line.
