Wilhelmina "Bil" Hardy is at loose ends in Cowslip, Idaho. Her sisters seem to be dating the same cowboy; her girlfriend Sylvie is having mother troubles, and, worst of all, Bil's parents have sold the family home and bought 200 acres on a remote hillside from a notoriously crooked businessman.

Under the pen name Auntie Establishment, she writes a monthly humor column for Moscow's Community News in which she takes on the most vital social issues of our day. A graduate of North Carolina State University, Joan has a BA and MA in English.
