King began writing later in life, and was a founder of the Canadian Authors Association. His novels, largely based on the socialite milieu of his wife, were bestsellers in the US. MARY LU MACDONALD is a Canadian Studies specialist who has written extensively on pre-Confederation Canada. She resides in Halifax.
